Costa Rica is the mecca for adrenaline junkies to experience the best in extreme sports with it’s lush rain forests, raging rivers and some of the best beaches in the world. This year extreme sports enthusiasts will be able to take part in one of the most strenuous competitions around the globe, The Costa Rica Adventure Race, which will take place in and around Costa Rica during from August 20th to the 28th.
This is actually a new event for Costa Rica, which was recently given the green light to host one of the 9 Adventure Race World Series Events at their annual meeting. The other 8 events are scattered around the world and include countries such as Portugal, Poland, Ecuador, Sweden, France and the ARWorld Championship which will be held in Spain in September 30 - October 2010.
The event is set up for up to 30 teams to enter and it’s open to all who can put up with rigorous conditions and are in outstanding physical shape. Some of the events include hiking, biking, kayaking, rappelling and rafting for over 310 miles in some of Costa Rica’s most beautiful and undeveloped areas. Participants are given zero guidance and must rely solely on a compass, a map pure survival instinct.
Who is able to participate in this race? Anyone is open to participate who feels they are able to take on the challenge but you must have a team of four including at least one female. Participants must also provide most of their own equipment as well as have the proper rescue and CPR training.
The race is sponsored by Costa Rica’s tourism board, ICT, and many other businesses who have expressed interest and are looking forward to cheering these teams on. So far there are three Costa Rican teams registered along with many other European teams. It’s an amazing event for Costa Rica to host and for those wanting to cheer these teams on or get involved there are also many volunteer opportunities available.
For those not feeling extreme enough to take part in the Adventure Race World Series, Costa Rica Luxury Rentals organizes many exciting tours including white water rafting, rain forest all-terrain vehicle tours, kayaking and even surfing. Just give us a call and we’ll be happy to organize your very own Costa Rica Luxury adventure package as well as accommodation.

The holidays are over, it’s January again already, and you’re dreading spending another semester break back in your hometown. Instead of wasting your days just waiting for your free time to come to an end, why not spend some fun-filled days or weeks in Costa Rica? Bring your best girlfriends or your best guy friends, or a mix of both, and escape to one of today’s hottest vacation destinations.
You and your buddies can spend days relaxing at the beach, warming up in Costa Rica’s many hot spring spots, or a hanging out at the spa and pool. Sign up for group surf lessons and learn how to ride the waves, or maybe try out kayaking or windsurfing.
Need to fit in some hard-core studious hours during your stay? No problem—there are a wide variety of educational and cultural-enriching opportunities to be had throughout Costa Rica as well. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced Spanish classes are offered all over the country. You can enroll in classes for a few days or weeks at a time. If you want an even more fulfilling cultural immersion, opt for a homestay while in Costa Rica. Most Spanish schools can arrange for you to live with a local family who only speaks Spanish. This way you can get in even more language-speaking time and you can learn about the culture first hand.
